THE DEBRIEF:
The very nature of retro prints mean they never really go out of style. From the bursting-with-confidence 1960’s interiors inspired graphics, to quirkier florals, and everything in between, this trend has infinite ways of carrying forward summer’s carefree abandon into fall. Bright printed pants are always a favorite—think Italian movie heroines wandering around Capri or Rome. A bold and playful printed dress (styled just right) will do the talking with most go-to basics—just choose a very linear and fitted silhouette. There's already a lot happening on the surface. Avoid loose or billowing options, or you may pay unknowing homage to your high school art teacher...

STYLE NOTES: For pants, keep away from flares unless you are headed to Woodstock. A sporty, simple shape will work with classic white shirts, casual tees, solid colored block sweaters, or other simple structured plain tops. Look for the mid-calf length pant, which bares enough ankle before fall dictates socks and tights. As for dresses and skirts, never choose a shape that's too retro. The prints themselves are evocative enough. The more leg on show and pulled in waist, the better. Invest in a wide black belt to sharpen things up and add other urbane touches as much as possible with accessories. When pairing jewelry, it's an eclectic-free zone. No chains, no colored jewels, and no stones. The optimal look consists of plain solid metals for rings and earrings.
BEAUTY NOTES: A clean or nude lip is essential. Any color will become too theatrical. A dark eye is fine. And keep the hair sleek, youthful, or casual.
