The late Sonia Rykiel was a Parisian icon who founded her namesake label in 1968 on Paris’ Left Bank and revolutionized world fashion throughout her career. The sociological and stylistic movement she pioneered, dubbed Rykielism, extolled the liberation of women through sensuality, intelligence, and irreverence. Rykielism is about having the freedom to be oneself—to live life in a way that is chic and offbeat.
The so-called “Queen of Knits,” Rykiel was known for her body-clinging striped sweaters. Now with designer Julie de Libran at the helm, the label’s archive is revisited and reworked for the modern woman.
Playful stripes, sumptuous fabrics, and a nod to the label’s 1970s heritage reoccur season after season, and the stripes of the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection do not disappoint...
