Coco Chanel debuted the sartorial stripe in 1917, and since then hardly a season has
gone by without some iteration of the striated classic making an appearance. This year
is no exception, and though the thin, horizontal stripe of the iconic French girl will
always have a place in our hearts and closets, this season’s stripe is more boat than
baguette. Bright, cheerful stripes made a showing on the spring runways in countless
variations, but the common theme was nautical.

Escape to the Tyrrhenian Sea in a wide yellow stripe reminiscent of the awnings of Capri,
choose a tote ringed in vibrant salmon and daydream of the umbrella-strewn beaches of
Saint-Tropez, or don a high-waisted trouser banded in navy and fancy yourself lounging
on the sun-soaked cushions of a Martha’s Vineyard-bound sailboat. Regardless of your
destination, we’ve chosen our favorite seafaring pieces to help whisk you away to your
own personal reverie…
